Shivani Tyronne’s journey with Miris started in a place many of us know well—facing life’s unexpected turns with determination and a dash of creativity. After taking a career break to care for her son, Shivani encountered the familiar challenge of gender inequity upon her return. Over 70 companies passed on her, but she didn’t let that dampen her spirit. Instead, she turned to her passion for creating something truly special.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, Shivani had one of those “aha!” moments. A farmer, doing door-to-door sales, had a hidden gem in his truck—about 500g of NaiMiris chilies. With a shortage of chili powder and fresh chilies, she couldn’t resist scooping them all up. Excited by her spicy score, she shared her find on Instagram, not expecting much more than some likes. What happened next was the spark she needed—a former colleague saw the post and requested a sauce made from the chilies. Game on!
Shivani whipped up her first batch using whatever ingredients she had in the kitchen, crafting a sauce with a kick. The response? Her colleague loved it and ordered ten more jars! That was the lightbulb moment: why not create a brand that celebrates these fiery NaiMiris chilies and the unique flavors of Sri Lanka?
And so, Miris by Islandmom was born!
